Malaysian actress Erra Fazira

Erra Fazira is a talented actress and has won many awards in Malaysia. Her colorful personal life shows the other side on her life as an entertainer.

Erra Fazira was born by the name Fazira Wan Chek on 9th February 1974 in Sungai Choh, Rawang, Selangor, Malaysia. Her parents are Chinese origin Muslim. Erra showed an interest in acting very early on.

During her school days, young Erra joined many clubs and societies in order to develop her acting skills. Among those clubs were Pramuka, St. Johns Ambulance, English Language Society and Culture Club.

The knowledge and socialization that she gained in joining those clubs played an important role in making the current Erra Fazira.

Successful Career

Erra Fazira started her career in the entertainment world by taking part and won the 1992 Malaysian beauty pageant. As Miss Malaysia, she represented her beloved country in the Miss World which was held in Botswana in the same year.

Even though she didn't win, it was the start of everything for Erra. She was the 3rd runner up for Miss South East Asia for the 1992/1993 session, the beauty competition in which she took part after Miss World.

Then, Erra played in a movie, a romantic drama entitled Sembilu where she played along side Awie, a popular Malaysian singer and actor in 1994. Remarkably, the movie was a big success, earning $4.2 million at that time.

Seeing the success, the director Yusof Haslam, decided to make the sequel of the movie entitled Sembilu 2 a year later. Erra also starred in the sequel and once again, it became a big hit in Malaysia, making just over $6 million.

Two successful movies led to others for Erra. Among the movies were Maria Mariana, Tragedi Oktober, Gemilang, Julia, Maria Mariana 2, and Soal Hati. The last movie gave her the Malaysian Film Festival Award for Best Actress in 2001.

Earnings over $70 million during her long career in the movie industry, she was recognized as Malay Film Primadonna since 1994.

In 2001, Erra was named as one of the 20 Most Richest Artist in Malaysia by Sentiasa Manja magazine. On the list there was also Siti Nurhaliza, KRU, Datuk Yusof Haslam, Chef Wan and Sheila Majid.

Personal Life

Erra's personal life has been an interesting topic to discuss. She has been reported to have relationships with numerous famous men in Malaysia. Her love life varied from businessman Ariff Tuah Ahmad Sarji, singer and actor Awie, actor Norman Hakim, singer, actor and director Yusry Abdul Halim, and corporate leader Engku Emran Engku Zainal Abidin.

Erra was married with Yusri Abdul Halim from KRU band in 2003, but, the marriage ended in divorce on June 16, 2006.

Her heart opened once more for her current husband, Engku Emran, the Chief Operation Officer of Suria FM. They met during the Suria FM Road Tour in April 2007.

After a short spell of romance, the couple decided to engage on September 7, 2007 and then wed in on October 25 at Restoran Puteri, Sungai Pencala Kuala Lumpur. They had their first child, Engku Aleesya two years later.

Actress's personal life often affect their career but Erra Fazira is proving that by managing both properly, she can climb her way to success.
